Mime-types wurden ursprünglich in der RFC 1341 festgelegt. Nach dessen Definition wurde eine Reihe von Erweiterungen gemacht. Einige davon findet man in der RFC 1521 und in der RFC 1522. Wir haben hier eine Liste mit den uns bekannten Typen zusammengestellt. Sie sind gegliedert in application, audio, image, message, multipart und video -types. Mime-types werden u.A. zur Beschreibung von Abschnitten innerhalb von Emails benutzt.
